I think there is a lot that GO-Invest should be doing. I think GO-Invest should be playing a leading role in investment promotion and investment related advocating in Guyana, and I don’t think it has been doing that up to now,” Gaskin said in a recent interview with the State’s news agency.There have been heavy criticisms over the operations of GO-Invest in the past. Quite a number of investments were handled by the respective ministries, leaving the agency out-of-the-loop.“I think GO-Invest has been sidelined by higher authorities in the past. You can’t have one investment agency and then have most of your major investments being handled outside of that agency.”“Go-Invest has to do what it was designed to do, and to that extent it must be given the authority to do so and it must be allowed to act without political interference,” he added.Minister Gaskin pointed out that going forward, the entity needs to be given new direction at the leadership level, as well as expanded capacity.Already, the Board of Directors have met since they were appointed.“I’m very encouraged by that first board meeting.
